Chinchilla

Think of the softest animal you’ve ever petted and then multiply that feeling by five. That’s how soft a chinchilla’s fur is. The South American rodent has the densest fur of any mammal: 50 or more hairs may sprout from each hair follicle.

Chinchillas need warm fur to survive in the Andes Mountains, at altitudes up to 16,500 feet. These social mammals live in colonies that may include a hundred members.
