How Glaciers Work

They grow, they move, they carve the land. They’re glaciers. Huge ice fields form wherever winter has lots of snow that summer doesn’t melt. Year after year the snow compresses, turns to ice, absorbs water, and grows until it forms a glacier.

But glaciers also retreat. Climate changes can cause melting and rising ocean levels. What else do you need to know about glaciers? Read on.
