Serengeti Scavengers

Four species belong to the family Hyaenidae: the spotted, striped, and brown hyena and the aardwolf. Except for the insectivorous aardwolf, hyenas are efficient predators that also scavenge or steal the kills of other carnivores.

Hyenas are more closely related to cats, but their behavior is more dog-like, such as pack living and hunting. Females dominate hyena society from the moment of birth.
