Lemur Basics

With a name that means "ghost" or "spirit of the night," lemurs live in the trees of Madagascar and the tiny Comoro Islands north of it.

Not surprisingly, these prosimians ("before monkeys") look like the ancestors of primates that lived tens of millions of years ago. Explore the many types of lemurs — from the 1-ounce pygmy mouse to the 15-pound sifaka.
