Determining the Net Force

Without net forces, nothing would happen. All forces would balance and all objects would either be stationary or would move in one direction only, at an unchanging speed, forever.

Fortunately, the forces acting on objects are often unbalanced. Together they then produce a net force, which causes an acceleration, which leads to all sorts of interesting outcomes.
