Snails and Slugs

Snails and slugs are gastropods, mollusks that often have a single coiled shell, a large, flat muscular foot — and a coating of slime. Snails have external shells, while slugs as a group lost their shells long ago.

More than 60,000 species of gastropods live everywhere from the deepest ocean to the top of mountains, eating many kinds organic matter, dead or alive. Some are outright predators.
