Voles and Lemmings

Voles and lemmings are small, short-tailed rodents that reproduce quickly. These mouse-like mammals mostly eat plant matter and can devastate huge areas of vegetation. Lemmings migrate when food is scarce, and their populations can rapidly boom, then crash to near extinction.

The Arvicolinae subfamily may seem insignificant, but many predators depend on them for survival.
